In June 2009 the Swedish artist Liv Strand and I made a research trip to Armenia. The Armenian territory has shrunken over the years. Once part of a region stretching out between The Mediterranean, The Black Sea and The Caspian Sea, Armenia is now a tiny state, a Christian Orthodox island coming to terms with it’s post-Soviet condition. The culture is built around a strong literary tradition rooted in ancient times, and nursed by Armenians, a majority living in the Diasporas. The partly unrecognized genocide on Armenians around 1900 has a role in the strong concern that Armenians has with history.

Liv Strand and I are invited to exhibit at Armenian Centre for Contemporary Experimental Art in Yerevan in October 2010 where we will install individual pieces in two separate rooms. We are cooperating on a publication about the research process, including discussions around texts that have been important for our investigations as well as texts written by Armenian contacts. Subjects that we discuss circle around mental and physical geography/topology, nationalism, space and memory, borders on the move and mental structures vs. physical structures.

Liv is producing a kinetic sculpture. I am working on a video installation including text stickers on the floor.
